Tate Modern (www..tate.org.uk) doesn’t charge entry and, until 7 May, is showing the largest-ever exhibition of works by Gilbert and George. Afterwards, take the Riverside Walk (www..southbanklondon.com) and admire views of the Thames. Listen to free music, such as Jazz, in the foyer of the National Theatre, Mondays to Saturdays at 5.30pm. |

SIX Madrid’s Prado Museum (www.museoprado.es) is one of the most visited attractions in Spain, housing a huge collection of works from artists such as Goya, El Greco, Boticelli and Rubens. Entrance is free on Sundays. |

SEVEN Art fans will love the Hugh Lane Gallery (www.hughlane.ie) in Dublin, which features works from Irish and international artists, including Degas, Lavery and Jack B Yeats, Ireland’s most famous 20th century artist. It’s free to get in, plus there are free concerts every Sunday at midday. |

EIGHT In Malmö, Sweden, get active for nothing at the recently opened Stapelbäddsparken (www..stapelbaddsparken.se), one of Europe’s biggest outdoor skateboard parks. Nearby, the Turning Torso (www.turningtorso.com) towers over the waterfront and is an architectural must-see. |

NINE A one-stop shop for newcomers to Scotland should be the National Museum of Scotland (www.nms.ac.uk), on Chambers Street in Edinburgh. It tells the story of Scotland’s people and culture, as well as holding special exhibitions, like Pixar: 20 Years of Animation (runs until 28 May). |
