[ in no order whatsoever ]

FRANCISCAN GARDENS
PRAGUE
The city’s bigger, more touristy, parks are home to all manner of Czech drunks. So stagger to this more peaceful spot to enjoy a quiet night, thanks to some seriously thick stone walls. Has lots of nice benches, too.

FIELD OF MIRACLES
PISA
Pisa isn’t blessed with an abundance of parks, so head to the grasslands of the city’s famously un-straight tower. It’s also a top spot for randy night owls.
Find it: in the heart of town by the cathedral

SASKI GARDENS
WARSAW
Nestled deep in the city’s old town, this sprawling retreat is ideal for the shy alfresco sleeper, as there are so many trees. It’s a bit quiet, mind, so perhaps not the best nocturnal hangout for the faint-hearted.
Find it: in the city centre, off marszalkowska st

WARANDE PARK
BRUSSELS
The drunk and the confused like simplicity, and that’s what’s on offer at this small city-centre oasis. The Warande’s long, clipped lawns are especially inviting.
Find it: rue royale, near the train station

THE PLANTY
KRAKOW
If it’s a restful night you seek, look no further than the Planty, a vast ring of green surrounding the old town, where the city walls once stood.
Find it: head For the old town square

PARC DU CHAMP DE MARS
PARIS
A landmark can really help, so head to these gardens at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. They’re not the city’s best, but then your hotel isn’t there!
Find it: from the tower to place joffre

STADTPARK
HAMBURG
This 121ha park attracts over 100,000 visitors on a busy weekend, so choose your grassy cot carefully, or you’ll wake up all covered in gum and cigarette butts.
Find it: off winterhude

CIRCUS MAXIMUS
ROME
When you’ve been at the absinthe, crash on a lawn that was once a chariot racetrack. Just pray your hallucinations put you in the winning carriage.
Find it: metro, circo massimo

MEZAPARK
RIGA
If you’re here, you’re lost. And you’re not in for a good night, as there was once a concentration camp here. What did it say on the hotel stationery in reception? Think! Think!
Find it: way up in the north east of the city

MIRABELL GARDENS
SALZBURG
Don’t expect a cardboard box for the night, as this vast, pristine park is as manicured as everything else in Austria. But you might run into tourists reenacting The Sound of Music, which was shot here.
Find it: behind mirabell palace
