THREE Foreign supermarkets are perfect. There’s an in-built excuse to talk to people, and instant chat-up lines. For best results, make sure you go in the evening rather than in the middle of the day.
FOUR Go somewhere hectic like one of the souks in Marrakesh. You’ll bond with people who speak your own language quickly, as the unusual surroundings promote conversation.
FIVE People are more likely to strike up conversation outside, especially if it’s sunny. So head to a nice outdoor café. The main square of Krakow, Poland, called the Rynek, has a few to choose from.
