Futuristic gadget
Sony XEL-1
We’re not sure what will have your mates more shocked — the fact you’ve got a TV that is just 3mm thick, or the fact that you paid in excess of €3,000 for a TV with a screen just 28cm wide. Let’s hope it’s the former, at which point you can wow them further by informing them that the XEL-1 is the first OLED (organic light-emitting diode) ever to make it to stores.

Travel gadget
Sanyo Xacti WH1
Waterproof up to 3m, this video camera encourages you to dive into the depths – and, with colours like this neon yellow, it’ll fit right in with the tropical fish. It’s also great for taking still photos, so you won’t have to swim laden down with two cameras – leaving you free to fight off any curious sharks.

Kids’ gadget
Minoru 3D Webcam
Only a child would feel comfortable jabbering away to a computer while sporting ridiculous 3D glasses. This webcam is the first to work in 3D, and when viewers put on their red-and-blue glasses (five pairs are included) they’ll be cowering in terror as you practically jump out of the screen at them. The camera sits on top of your monitor with its eyes all lit up – as if the whole experience wasn’t weird enough already!

Weird gadget
Bag TV
You know those moments when you wished you had a TV on the front of your handbag? What do you mean “no”? What if it played movies, picture slideshows and MP3s? And was removable, with a 2½-hour battery life? Still no? OK, as you were then.
