CASE STUDY # 1
A Family Affair WILLIAM MAX MCCARTHY

Many of us aim to break the
apron strings as soon as we
can, and the thought of living
near our siblings or family can
send some people into a cold
sweat – but not the Max McCarthy family.
Seeing the plight of first-time buyers, William
Max McCarthy saved up so that he could help
his children Sonia and William Junior get on the
housing market and get their own homes.
After searching around the region he decided to opt for a regeneration scheme, and when both his children fell in love with a new £500-million development in Lower Broughton in Salford, William Senior paid the deposit on a stylish twobedroom apartment for his daughter Sonia and a four-bedroom house for his son. A chemistry teacher in a local secondary school, Sonia says the key factor for buying here was the location.
“I didn’t want to live right in the centre of
Manchester but I wanted to be close enough
to have access to the bars and restaurants.

I also needed easy access to work, and New
Broughton is only a few minutes away!” William
Junior is looking forward to moving into his
spacious new four-bedroom home but also to
the fact that his sister will still be cooking for
him every night!
“He’s not going to get off lightly – who does he think will be doing all my odd jobs?” says Sonia! WWW.NEWBROUGHTONLIVING.COM
CASE STUDY # 2 A Picture Perfect Home PAULINE SELLERS

Developers and agents are
always looking for new hooks to
entice buyers and of course
every buyer likes to have their
home looking colourful and with
a bit of art hanging on the walls.
This leads to the logical conclusion of a link-up between developers
and the art community, which was a big selling
point when Pauline Sellers bought her new home
in Cressington Heath in south Liverpool.
Originally from the inner city, receptionist Pauline recently moved from Wirral where she had lived for 16 years but, missing the bright lights, she didn’t need much persuasion from her 18- year-old daughter Katie to move closer to the city.
The developers teamed up with local art organisation Dot-Art and each buyer was given a £250 gift voucher
“I enjoy being close to the hustle and bustle of the city, and the location means that within minutes, if I travel via train, I can be right in the city centre, which is ideal.”

Pauline and Katie live in a four-bedroom,
three-storey modern property featuring an
open-plan kitchen and living area, separate
dining room and an en-suite bathroom for the
master bedroom. As part of a six month-long
exhibition the developers teamed up with
Liverpool-based art organisation Dot-Art and
each buyer was given a £250 (€330) gift
voucher. Pauline chose a painting of a sunset by
local artist Joe Thompson, which now hangs in
her downstairs living area.
