“Standing at the baggage carousel I'm always glad I've got something in cow print”

“HAVING DJED FOR 19 YEARS I KNOW HOW different cultures like to party. How I play in New York is not how I play in Miami. In Portugal they like a tougher, techno kind of scene and in the north of England they’re all about the vocals. Down on the French Riviera the VIPs like all the commercial house, and in Paris and Lyon they know their music – they’re educated and into edgy, groovier stuff.

“I grew up in Colombia and my first holiday away with friends was when I was about 15 – it was amazing to be going out without telling anyone where, then staying out crazy late. My last holiday was Brazil, right after New Year, and I went to meet a bunch of friends and stayed out all night, without any teenage guilt!

“Have I ever done anything super-adventurous on my travels? A year and a half ago I went deep-sea fishing in Mexico. It wasn’t really my kind of thing and I’d probably never do it again. It took a whole hour to reel a fish in. It seemed a little inhumane, but we threw them back in. Apparently they don’t have nerves around the mouth so they don’t feel the pain.

“My favourite hideout in Europe has got to be Ibiza. I’ve owned a house there for the past six years and been visiting the island since 1992. Not only do you have some of the best clubs in the world but beautiful beaches, great restaurants and Formentera only a boat ride away. My secret eat is a place called Balafia in middle-of-nowhere Sant Joan de Labritja.

It’s busy every night, even though the menu is limited to barbecued chicken, beef, lamb chops, French fries and wonderful salad grown in the back yard. It’s my 11th season playing Wednesday nights at Pacha in Ibiza town, and in all that time I’ve only missed one session when my friend got married in Bali. Now that’s love!

“This summer I’ll be listening to all my sets on my iPod – and the new Subliminal Sessions: Voodoo Nights, which is out end of May. I also love Prince, James Brown, Bob Marley and Aretha Franklin. I can’t keep up with new stuff and I don’t watch MTV. When I come home all I want to do is chill out.

“Having said that, I’ve been working with Knomo on designing some cool luggage for a new range I’m ambassador for. A good bag is about longevity – knowing the wheels aren’t going to fall off.
