Sally Mor gan

The much-loved British celebrity medium, and psychic reader for the late Diana, Princess of Wales, tells all about her travels

“I travel a lot to see my clients – to the US, Australia, South Africa, the South of France and Spain. They are often celebrities, VIPs, politicians, or foreign royalty. It’s all word of mouth – I’ve never advertised. I was a dental nurse for many years, but I’ve been doing this for 22 years. Though you’re a medium all your life.

“I was born, and grew up, in Fulham, west London. It was a poor council estate upbringing in those days. We didn’t go on planes or go places. In 1964, we went to Mosney in Ireland, to Butlins holiday camp, where I won Miss Mosney 1964. I think it was my little Cockney accent that got their attention. There were all these Irish saying: ‘She’s lovely!’

“Unfortunately, travel for me these days is business, and the luxury of time to myself is rare. So when I’m off work I often want to be at home. But I do love to go to the South of France – to Mougins and St Tropez. The tranquillity and light reminds me of Australia. It’s a little piece of heaven, even in winter.

“Australia is my favourite place on earth. I love Perth and the Gold Coast. My dream is to spend six months travelling around Oz. Such a pity it’s so far away, but that’s why it’s special.

“The last place I went was with my daughter and grandchildren, to Albufeira on the Algarve in Portugal, staying at a great villa just outside the old town. I loved the weather, and being with the grandchildren and not watching the clock. Now I’m about to go off on a boat around the Caribbean, so I’ll be seven whole days without my mobile phone.

“The worst holiday I’ve ever been on was a cruise on the Med, seven years ago. Hi-Di-Hi-onbloody- sea, it was. The best thing about it was when we stopped off at Pompeii, but otherwise it was a constant case of ‘Ding dong! So and so is on the upper deck! Ding dong! There is food upstairs! Ding dong! Ding dong!’. And the food was dreadful.

“I pick up the energy of places and I’m not so keen on South Africa. I got a strange sense there, an undercurrent, even in Constantia. I stayed in a stunning house in the lap of luxury, but there’s a lot of resentment in the air because of the gap between the haves and the have-nots. And I’m afraid I err on the side of the have-nots. I feel in tune with the locals when I visit a place. Everyone says: ‘It’s so lovely and luxurious’, and I think: ‘Hold on a minute, it might be luxurious for us, but it’s not for anyone else around here.’ I just feel like it’s an accident waiting to happen.

“I feel the same about Thailand. And I had a bad experience there. I fell down a pothole and nearly broke my foot. They had to get me into a tuk-tuk to get me to hospital, because the traffic was at a standstill. And I’m a big woman.

“I’d love to go to India. My great-grandmother was from near Madras, and she married a British soldier in the Anglican church there, aged 14, and came to Britain. He then died and she was put into service. Years later, she married my great-grandfather. If I go there, I know I’m going to connect.”
