5 Bars serving hot alcoholic drinks

ČSA BAR

BERLIN, GERMANY
This quirky, trendy bar is named after the Czech national airline, whose offices were once based in the building. Beautifully lit like a film set, the chic retro east European decor attracts an arty crowd. Ask for hot punch, toddies, hot cocktails or a mulled wine enticingly named Hot Frenchman.

ARTESIAN

LONDON, ENGLAND
A favourite cocktail of mine is the Blue Blazer, made expertly at this glamorous bar in The Langham hotel. Bar staff set the Johnnie Walker whisky alight, and serve over hot lava stones. There’s a good range of other hot drinks too.

SMITHY’S TAVERN

LES DEUX ALPES, FRANCE
Situated in the southern Alps, this popular après-ski spot features live music and DJs, and has an impressively long bar. It is famous for Green Chaud, an infusion of rich, creamy hot chocolate and green Chartreuse liqueur sourced from nearby Voiron. There’s mulled wine and a hot mojito too.

DIDI’S BAR AND LOUNGE

ALGARVE, PORTUGAL
Part of the Dunas Douradas Beach Club, this bar boasts hot alcoholic drinks like chocolate- and coff ee-based cocktails and even vegetable purées. Try Spicy Carrot Brûlée – a warm mixture of Jamaican rum, mashed carrots, key lime pie syrup and Portuguese cinnamon liqueur – dessert in a glass.

REVERIE

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND
Sparkling chandeliers and big gold mirrors mean there’s no shortage of bling at this live music bar. Staff have no problem knocking up a fabulous hot toddy, thanks to the large collection of malts, and don’t miss the delicious rum hot chocolates and mulled wine.

The Drinkers’ Column

Pop-up bars and pre-mixed cocktails

POLAR BAR

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND
Located in Chavasse Park, this Arctic-themed winter wonderland of a pop-up bar will be running until 10 January. Sink into a Chesterfield sofa by the fireplace, and keep yourself warm with mulled wine, hot toddies, spiced rum punches and other winter beverages. The bar is ideal for Christmas parties – but hurry, it’s not around for long.

TAILS COCKTAILS

This new ready-made cocktail may seem like just another marketing idea, but in fact Tails really hit the spot. The three different options – pre-mixed Espresso Martini, Mai Tai and Cosmopolitan – taste lovely and look great in sleek, beautifully designed shakers. Each serves four, and makes a cute stocking filler.
