“MY family is from Germany and I have lived in New York and Malaga, but there is nowhere else I would rather be than in Valencia, where I live today. For me, it is the most vibrant and energetic city in Spain.

“I work as part of a team at CuldeSac. We are more than a design studio, rather we are a ‘creative space’ of 13 talented individuals who work together on a range of eclectic arts and business projects. It must work well, as we have won a number of awards for our projects, including the Compasso D’Oro in Italy this year and a Red Dot design award.

“Our team is a bit like Valencia, a city where people pull together to create something new and exciting. It is no accident that Valencia is the home of paella, which we do sometimes create here too. Valencia’s architecture is the paella too, with all sorts of things thrown into the mix.

“There have been seismic changes here over the past few years, with the America’s Cup and now the Formula One Grand Prix, both projects we have been involved in. You can see the city changing all around you every day. I have also noticed a lot more tourists, too. If it is your first time then take a bike ride around the Turia, the old riverbed that has now been reinvented with public sculptures and cycle paths. Also be sure to pop into the Mercado Central, to feel the pulse of the city as you snack your way around the stalls.

“One of the great Valencian pleasures for me is just taking it easy – it is sunny here over 300 days a year. I recommend the Estrella Damm Lounge at the revamped America’s Cup harbour at sunset. Sip a cocktail and watch the sun melt over the new face of Valencia. If you do this I think you will see why I love the city so much and could never leave.”
