Everybody thrust your index and pinkie in the air and scream with me: “Let’s rock!” This season’s new trend is one to take crowd surfing – a look all about the sexy masculinity and bravado of the rock icon (and not a bit about the Metallica mullet, relief!).

It was back at Paris Fashion Week earlier last year that Brit designers rocked out with a leather love-in, crucifixes and studded accessories.

In November, V magazine confirmed the trend with a Mario Testino cover shoot, featuring Natalie Portman all punked-up rockabilly hair, smudged black kohl and studded denim. Never one to buck a trend, Victoria Beckham promptly binned her body-con dresses in favour of leather-look leggings and glam rock jackets, and Gossip Girl’s Taylor Momsen (pictured) — too young to have ever stuck a picture of Jon Bon Jovi above her headboard — has been snapped in bleached and ripped denim with leather jackets, tees and statement jewellery. In fact, I circled my arms in a celebratory air guitar whirl to see Rihanna stepping out in the same Agent Provocateur lime green, animal-print bra that I have languishing at the bottom of my undies drawer.

So girls, time for a master class in becoming a rock groupie.

Look for a pair of ripped or acid-wash skinny jeans, and wear with a graphic/ printed vest and textured cardigan (like the one pictured below). Never mind that staggering onto the tour bus in bondage ankle boots is a challenge, you won’t be getting off it for another 10 hours. Accessorise with a top hat and some Jim Beam.
