ODE TO THE MOULD
LA CAPELLE, FRANCE
Here at the top of France they know a thing or two about cheese, and the foire aux fromages (cheese fair) held at La Capelle every September draws dairy-obsessives from all over France. Admittedly, it’s for nasal masochists only!
EXCLUSIVE FRENCH PERFUME
PARIS, FRANCE
There is a boutique in the French capital called Jar Parfums, which posh foreigners will automatically seek out when in town. The perfumer gives nothing away on its website; instead you have to go to the store in person and see which scent “talks” to you. Then you have to sell your kidney and buy some.

GOD’S COFFEE
ROME, ITALY
Often touted as the best coffee shop in Italy, an espresso at Sant’ Eustachio will knock your socks off. An earthy whiff of freshly ground coffee wafts through this 70-year-old institution, and aficionados say it’s like entering coffee nirvana.
THE HOME OF BMW
MUNICH, GERMANY
If, like 97% of the people we’ve ever met, you get rather excited by the smell of a new car, then a tour of the factory where they make “Bimmers” is likely to leave you giddy. For your €6 you may even meet the man (or robot) whose job it is to spray vehicles with that new-car smell. Imagine that!
FOOD TO DIE FOR
GIRONA, SPAIN
What’s that you say, you couldn’t get a table at El Bulli? Fear not, El Celler de Can Roca is located in the same area and is fast becoming one of the top restaurants in Spain. It’s run by three brothers and boasts three Michelin stars – and it won’t just be your nose that is overwhelmed.
