This church honours St Paul, who was
martyred in Rome circa 67AD. It contains
some spectacular relics and mosaics, as
well as St Paul's tomb. Scooter-lovers turn
up for “vespers” at 5pm each day (ahem).

Recently revived, this ancient festival uses
the Piazza del Popolo as its base, and
features fl oats, horse shows, fi reworks
and period dress. A spate of jousting
accidents put paid to the original festival
in the 1800s… something of a sore point.
Address: 26 February – 8 March.

If you can wax lyrical about Italian

wearing a stripy jumper, then join fellow
film buffs for a coffee or aperitivo at this
teeny Trastevere café-bar. There's loads
of movie merchandise for sale, too.

Etching itself into the Michelin-star pack this
year, Glass (pictured) has found favour with
its masterful menu. If “coffee-crusted lamb,
spiced cherries and asparagus” sounds like
something you'd love to stab your fork into,
you'd better hail a chariot there soon.

Set in an area filled with art galleries, Babette may be styled on an early 20th-century French brasserie, but the food is resolutely Italian. Fuss-free dishes include the likes of artichoke flan with Parmesan fondue, and quail breast stuffed with meat ragout. For group dining, choose between a large room, a smaller room sometimes used for exhibitions, and a cosy courtyard.
