ROMAN AMPHITHEATRE
Dating back to the first century AD, Pula's limestone amphitheatre (pictured) was built to host gladiator battles and seats around 20,000 people. Pula Film Festival is held here, as are a number of concerts, all under the stars.

The Archaeological Museum of Istria
Roman artefacts here include mosaics, jewellery, coins and weapons, amply documented in English in an attractive, three-storey building in the city centre.
