SILVESTERABEND KONZERT
The tradition of New Year's Eve concerts in Leipzig dates back to a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in 1918. This year the Gewandhaus hosts a series of recitals organised by the Berlin Philharmonic on 31 December, with works by Mozart, Strauss and Vivaldi, among others.

WORLD'S LARGEST ADVENT CALENDAR
At a mammoth 872m2, Leipzig's freestanding advent calendar is the largest of its type in the world. One giant door is opened at 4.30pm every day until Christmas Eve, when it's opened at 11am.
