The turbulent love affair of Tristan and Isolde, as told in Richard Wagner's epic masterpiece, has been refreshed by celebrated German director Claus Guth to include subtle nods to the composer's own troubled romantic life for a series of performances at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein throughout June and July.
